“Harpucopia!” - A Fund Raising Concert for the American Harp Society

Members of the Baltimore Chapter will perform a variety of concert harp works

A Portion of the proceeds will benefit the Kay Papa Nou orphanage in Haiti

Julia Martin Frazier, Jacqueline Pollauf

On the Saturday evening before Thanksgiving, local harpists Julia Martin Frazier and Jacqueline Pollauf will head up a unique and varied concert of harp music at Roland Park Presbyterian Church.  A "harpucopia", if you will, of selections from the instrument's repertoire.  In keeping with the autumnal theme of the harvest bounty, a rich and diverse program will be presented, and the proceeds will be given to both the Baltimore Chapter of the American Harp Society, and the Kay Papa Nou orphanage in Haiti.

Funds received by the Harp Society will be used to support the ongoing activities of the chapter.  There are three main areas of focus: the annual sponsorship of an internationally renowned harpist who will provide a concert and educational masterclass, a winter student recital to encourage school age and adult students to perform solo and ensemble repertoire, and an annual spring Charm City Harp Ensemble concert, performed by members of the organization, professional and student alike.

Julia Martin Frazier, the President of the Baltimore Chapter of the AHS, received her Master of Music from the Peabody Institute.  She also holds a Bachelor of Music in Harp Performance, and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History, from Oberlin College and Conservatory.  Julia works as a freelance harpist and teacher throughout the Baltimore/Washington DC area.  She has worked closely for the last two summers with parishioner Jackie Capecci on the Summer Chamber Music Series of Roland Park, both as organizer and performer.  She is thrilled to continue this relationship by providing further concerts and raising awareness not only for the beauty of her instrument, but for greater needs, such as those of the Kay Papa Nou orphanage in Haiti.  More details about Julia can be found on her website - www.harpsounds.net.

Jacqueline Pollauf is also an active performer and teacher in the Baltimore area.  Her multi faceted career includes her role as principal harpist with both the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra and the Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra. Jacqueline seeks to explore and expand not only the role of classical music in society, but also the perception and capabilities of the harp.  An active teacher, Jacqueline is on the faculties of the University of Maryland at Baltimore County and the Baltimore School for the Arts . Jacqueline holds Master and Bachelor of Music degrees from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University.  More info on Jacqueline at www.jpharp.com

BALTIMORE CHAPTER STUDENT RECITAL

A huge THANK YOU goes out to all who participated in this great recital.  Especially Jackie Pollauf, conductor and organizer.  Everyone did a spectacular job, and we had a great time celebrating afterwards at our reception, organized by Elaine Bryant.  It was such a joy to hear the ensemble pieces and solos alike.  Well done!
